When real life testing this latest feature, a Dublin pharmacist described its use as “close to a contactless flu vaccination”. What he was referring to was the latest feature of the Pharmacy Services Booking Engine.

Brought to you by the IPU, the Pharmacy Services Booking Engine enables your pharmacy to easily gather contact, pharmacy services consent and now medical details from a patient before they walk in the door of the pharmacy.

Medical and Patient Information

The patient questionnaire can be set by the pharmacy to help gather the exact information you need. The questionnaire can be configured by booking type. So the questions asked in the child’s nasal flu vaccine can be different to the adult’s vaccine, for example. Advance knowledge of these details allow you to review the appointment and to make decisions about the vaccination in advance of the patients visit.

Information in the questionnaire can include:

Medical information such as allergies
At risk questions
Company name
Doctors details, date of birth etc.

Two types of questions can be asked:

Open question for which a typed response is needed or
Closed question Yes/No/Skip

Even if a question is skipped, the patient can still make the booking giving you the opportunity to review the skipped question. The answers to all questions are available in the pharmacy portal and can be viewed alongside the consent, patient details and appointment details.

Viewing Patient Medical Data & Consent in the Pharmacy Portal

The booking engine is delivered with an associated online pharmacy portal to securely view and manage appointments.

When pharmacy staff log into the pharmacy portal, they have access to the Appointments tab which lists the booked appointments. The pharmacy can filter the dashboard view to look at appointments for today, next week, 14 day view etc.

Staff can also view contemporaneous patient content, send additional SMS texts; schedule appointments for patients who call; cancel appointments, add internal notes, view schedule etc.

In addition, the Appointments view now includes the medical history details that the patient enters when booking the appointment.

Booking Engine Overview

The Pharmacy Services Booking Engine helps you to implement an online appointment booking service quickly and easily. It is a self-service tool for patients to schedule an appointment, provide personal information, authorise to be contacted and agree to the service specific consent in question, for example a flu vaccination injection for adults.

It will work on any website including WordPress, Shopify etc. AB Commerce has also developed a widget for the Booking Engine.

Once the booking engine is on your website, the patient can:

Select an appointment type, eg adult flu vaccination
Read and agree to the information provided about the service
Select an appointment date and time
Enter contact details including PPSN (if needed)
Provide contact consent
Answer a medical and patient questionnaire
Provide vaccination consent.

On completion, the patient will receive a text message 24 hours in advance of the appointment as a reminder.
